i heart summer time in utah

happy pioneer days!

not quite sure what to think of the fireworks...

just a few reasons why i love being home at this time of year: fireworks. parades. bbq's. hiking. swimming. boating. huntsville's 4th of july 5k. north ogden cherry day's 5k. the mountains. running. the green trees. shade. sprinklers. ice cream. zeppes. familiar faces. pictures. shopping. walking to grandma's house. utah holidays (aka pioneer days). cherry days. breakfast in the park. baseball games. family parties. home made ice cream. cool nights. long days. chalking the drive way. jumping on the tramp. drinking from the ellis well. scooter rides. motorcycle rides with my dad. kirt's. driveway lightning. the smell of grass. freshly cut grass. my mom's flower garden. watching my sister at cheer camp. babysitting nieces and nephews. the rodeo. wedding receptions.

summer time is for... hiking!

yesterday, to celebrate pioneer days, jeff and i hiked lewis peak. i loved every minute of it. it's probably the peak closest to my parent's house, yet it was my first time hiking that beautiful mountain. how sad. it was so beautiful! we started at the north ogden divide, then came down the skyline trail and ended up at wind surfer's beach at pine view dam. overall, it was about 15 miles. good hike!

shot from my parent's home. there she is!

since we got a late start, we weren't sure if we would have time to hike both the peak and do the skyline trail to make it back in time for a movie with jeff's family. but we wanted to do it all so we just jogged our way down the skyline trail (7.4 miles) to make it back with plenty of time. it was fun! we estimated that we ran atleast 6 of those miles. and i'm feeling it today. i'm hobbling around like an old woman. out of those rocky 6 miles, i only ate it once. and i tripped and almost fell about 10 other times. i guess i need to pick my feet up a little more when i run...

another highlight on our hike was that we saw a rattle snake. well, jeff saw it. i heard it. he walked right past it on the trail, almost stepping on it. and when i heard him say, "i think it's a rattler!" i ran in the other direction, leaving the rattle snake in between us. for a minute i thought i wasn't going to leave that spot on the mountain. what was i supposed to do? i didn't want to walk past it, in fear that it would strike! so we waited a while, until we could no longer hear it and then i booked it like the dickens to jeff on the other side of the trail.

it was a really beautiful hike. you get an awesome view of north ogden, the ogden valley, pine view, and the ogden canyon. and it wasn't too difficult a climb. i highly recommend it. i can now say i've hiked all of the surrounding ogden mountains: ben lomond, lewis peak, and mt. ogden.

one more good shot:

What beautiful pictures from your hike! I also love your list: don't forget to add cloudy mornings. There's nothing like going for a run in cool morning air. Hope to see you guys soon!

I don't think I've ever hiked Lewis! Definately on my to-hike list now. Ben Lomand's skyline trail has always been one of my faves. Looked like fun, glad you could make it back to utahard for the holiday!

There is nothing like the mountains in Utah. My favorite is Timpanogus-I consider it "my mountain" since I gre up at it's base. You are such fun Hilary and so full of life and goodness!
