our 4th of july was very low key this year. but it was actually one of the four days that jeff had off that month (or i guess it was actually saturday the 3rd...) at any rate, we were excited to be together to celebrate no matter how small the celebration. our tiny maumelle isn't like every other town along the wasatch front, with their own morning breakfast, parade, and carnival going on during the day. and quite frankly, i don't know who in their right mind would go to something outdoors like that with this humidity here. instead, the festivities don't begin until the evening. starting with the 10 minute parade. we showed up about 2 minutes before it started and had no problem finding a seat. it was awesome. short and sweet and they threw tons of candy for the little kids. i don't think we would've lasted if it were any longer. we were all sticky and dying of heat by the end of it.
we were lucky enough to join our friends, the gardners, for the parade and then a bbq at their house afterwards. it was so nice to have some cute kids help get candy and friends to enjoy the 4th with. we were lame and dodged out on the fireworks since jeff had to work so early the next morning and we had a baby's schedule to keep...

and i made jeff pose for a picture bright and early before he left for work on july 1st, his first day of residency. his first rotation was in the icu, last month was general medicine and this month is general medicine at the v.a. and his first day of this month was another 30 hour on call shift. not gonna lie, it's been rough. he's never home. 1st year of residency is a beast. so it's safe to say, we are counting down the days until his elective month (and vacation month) in october and/or until this first year is over... sad. i know.
he is a hard, hard worker. and i'm a proud wifey.

YEAH for Dr. Gardiner!!...and his wife. I'm NOT looking forward to that first year.
Wow that baby looks just like her daddy!!! Good for jeff for working so hard!!
I ask Sean every day, "is it over yet?" I hate residency! Oh well... enjoy the journey, I guess. :)
I love Love LOVE your yard! So jealous. But not of the snakes. :)
I think we shop at all the same places! I have seen 2 twiner(not a word?) outfits! Love girl stuff!Congrats to your hubby that is great!
Such fun posts! Sophie is so big. And you have friends called the Gardners in Maumelle? That's hilarious!
Your backyard looks super fab! I'm sorry the heat is so bad, but I'm so excited for Jeff!
Ahh! We miss you guys but it looks like you are settling in nicely. When is your first trip back to AZ scheduled?? Sophie is getting so big and is so darling! She is going to love that big backyard when she starts running around someday. I have to tell you that we passed up on a trip to go to New York because I just don't trust leaving my kids with anyone but you!:( You spoiled us and the girls. Maybe someday you guys will get back to good old AZ. Love ya!
I love the graduation pictures where sophie is just sleeping in your arms! Bugs are gross back east I bet they are even worse in the south, it sounds like it! Yuck. I grew a garden, it was doing so good for two months, it was invaded by some nasty gray bugs and was dead in two days! Your cute little house looks amazing though, even with the bugs! I'm wishing you all the luck with the first year of residency!
How are you guys doing? Do you miss AZ as much as we do? Seriously, I think about how much fun we had there almost every day. Guess I'm still going through withdrawals, eh? Sophie is so cute and getting so big!!
